The Ted Lasso episode and Ed Sheeran interview you MUST watch this week

I can never ever ever figure out what to watch when I’m trying to find something to watch. I routinely find myself sitting in front of the TV for hours until it’s time to go to bed and I’m left feeling dissatisfied and irritated at all the time I’ve just wasted. Of course, when I’m at work, or running around, I get a great recommendation from a friend or see an ad for a new show that looks right up my alley. But, when I get home, I can’t remember the name, and the cycle continues.

I’ve decided to start a notes document on my phone dedicated to housing all the books, movies, TV shows, and podcasts I want to watch. Sometimes, I’ll get super specific and write the name of a particular episode I’ve heard is good if the show is conducive to skipping around.

In case it’s helpful, here are the two best pieces of content I’ve watched this week. If you’re in the mood to laugh, cry, and feel seen all at once, you have to tune in. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Ted Lasso S3 E8: We’ll Never Have Paris

As the name suggests, this episode talks a lot about Paris. Why? Because Ted Lasso’s ex-wife Michelle, mentions to him on a phone call that she’s traveling to Paris with her serious boyfriend, Dr. Jacob.

In light of this conversation, Ted starts catastrophizing until he has convinced himself Michelle is getting proposed to, with no solid evidence. In a way, the creation of this false narrative is an attempt at coping with the fear of the unknown. This is furthered by his desire to hire a private investigator to help concretely answer whether or not Michelle is getting engaged, and thus settle his anxiety. He lets this situation eat at him so much that he forgets to live in the moment and spend quality time with his son, the most important person in his life.

The episode masterfully uses Ted Lasso’s reaction to his wife’s confession to unpack the complex mind of an overthinker. I related so much to his behavior and think it’s a great reminder to live in the present and learn to be comfortable with the unknown, no matter how scary it may feel.

The Zane Lowe Show: The ‘Subtract’ Interview with Ed Sheeran

Plus, Multiply, Divide, Equals. Subtract. These aren’t just mathematical symbols, but the names of Ed Sheeran’s iconic albums.

For Ed, each of his albums represents a different phase of his life, the same way these symbols have different functions yet make up a greater system. His newest album, Subtract, reflects the past couple of years of his life filled with loss, not just in relation to his loved ones, but the time he spent in wasteful trials that he will never get back.

In this conversation with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Ed opens up on his journey with grief, explaining that it is a never-ending journey that has forced him to confront his mental health and wellness head-on.

Despite being a massive star, watching this interview makes you feel like you are in an intimate room with Ed Sheeran, sharing stories and being vulnerable.
