Queen B’s new hair care business, Quiet Mind’s anti-anxiety pillow, and Mala‘s newest candle

Here at INNER CIRCUS, we’re always on the lookout for the newest products and trends in the wellness category. This week, there were three standout announcements and drops that we had to share.

For full disclosure, we haven’t tried any of the products listed below. But, we are fans of these brands and interested in what they are bringing forward, so wanted to share them with all of you:

Beyoncé: New Hair Care Venture

Let’s be honest. If you see an advertisement for a new celebrity-founded brand, what we’re calling “CFB”, it’s likely you’d skip it. Or scrunch your face. Or roll your eyes. Or all of the above.

It’s not because the ideas are dumb, but because the concept of a CFB raises a lot of questions about the celebrity founder, and their intention behind founding the business in the first place:

  • Are they actively involved in any part of the business, or are they simply slapping their name on some pretty packaging and calling it a day?

  • Is the problem they are trying to solve actually a problem, or are they just hiring teams to come up with a mediocre solution to a non-existent problem?

  • Do they really care about creating a solution, or is it just a stunt to make themselves more money?

Over the past few years, most of these celebrity brands have been concentrated in the following industries: food and beverage, or makeup and skincare. One category that is comparatively underrepresented is hair care and we’ve seen BIPOC women lead the charge in this space. Take Priyanka Chopra’s brand, Anomaly, or Tracy Ellis Ross’ Pattern Beauty, for instance. These founders believe in the celebration of natural beauty which certainly seems to be a driving force behind Beyoncé’s new upcoming brand.

While we have yet to find out many details, Beyoncé’s new hair care venture will pays homage to her childhood and early stages of her career. In her announcement post on Instagram HERE, she said, “How many of y’all knew my first job was sweeping hair in my mama’s salon? Destiny’s Child got our start by performing for clients while they were getting their hair done.”

“How many of y’all knew my first job was sweeping hair in my mama’s salon? Destiny’s Child got our start by performing for clients while they were getting their hair done.”

Let’s start placing bets on what the products will be. Hair styling gadgets? Probably not given her emphasis on the intimate hair-soul connection. Shampoos and conditioners? Maybe. Hair oils? Seems more accurate, but then again, who knows. We can’t wait to find out.

Quiet Mind: The Original Weighted Pillow

Gravity Blankets walked so Quiet Mind could RUN all the way into a new, “original”category: weighted pillows.

Taking a step back, we’re fans of gravity objects, but not mega fans. While it can be nice to snuggle underneath a weighted blanket, it can feel suffocating after a couple minutes. And claustrophobic. Sometimes, it makes us feel trapped.

That’s why we’re excited for Quiet Mind’s new pillow that is marketed as a “Stress ball for your body.” On an emotional level, the weight is supposed to simulate the sensation of hugging another individual, and the science indicates that the weight releases dopamine. Unlike a blanket, you can wrap yourself around this pillow versus it covering you, which will help prevent you from feeling “stuck” like we do with the blanket.

Not convinced? Do you ever feel an instant dose of serotonin after hugging a loved one? Or, cuddling with your pillow at night? We’re assuming it feels like this, only more elevated and intenses, in the best way. Don’t knock it until you try it!

Another week, another collaboration, and another candle. Who could say no to this!

Introducing Mala’s new yuzu coca candle in collaboration with Grumpy Kid Studio, a Montreal-based brand that creates unique and playful ceramics. This candle is ”infused with a captivating blend of sweet yuzu and bright grapefruit and housed in a homemade ceramic vessel.”

As a South Asian founded magazine, we were so excited to learn that the scent is Asian-inspired which will pair well with the 150 scents that co-exist in our house at all times: agarbatti, dal chawal, rose water, the list goes on. If you're also South Asian, you’ll get what we’re talking about.
